chuvaness and all that jazzzzzzzzzzzzzz

sorry but i just had to react to something. share na rin ng anecdote.

just read kasi this pr from mag:net katips which i regularly receive. feel ko yatang mag-chill out listening to live music this week so i'm checking out who's playing where when i chanced upon this nga.

Jazz Trio H30 featured at Mag:net Café

H30 is composed of drummer Mikah Azurin, upright bassist Dave Harder and guitarist Aya Yuson.

The trio has played a number of gigs, the most prestigious of which was a slot at Fete de la Musique 2003.

Relative newcomer Mikah Azurin is perhaps the only drummer of his generation talented, driven and insane enough to venture into the existential no-man's-land that is straightahead jazz music. He's got a good head on his shoulders, a good heart in his chest and musical skills to match.

Bassist Dave Harder is a young veteran of the Manila music scene. After cutting his musical teeth on various pop showbands over the years, he has now chosen to focus on the very demanding upright bass. Dave is of a dying breed, that of the devoted jazz musician. His inveterate musicality is now making him a force to reckon with.

Guitarist Aya Yuson can be very funny when the mood is right. His prematurely receding hairline frames a face some women may find strangely attractive. Often mistaken as stand-offish, he's actually painfully shy.

He's been called the best guitarist of his generation and perhaps beyond. He was a member of the acclaimed, award-winning jazz group, Wdouji. He's now a member of the JazzPhil Ensemble, where he plies his high-flying trade. He tries to make his guitar sound like a piano.

His first CD album — "Aya Yuson: SOLO" — has just been released, and is available in Mag:net branches.

can i just say a big big big guwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark?

sorry evil ako pero sometimes -- nay, most times, i react to people who are greatly talented sana pero when they display their arrogance or, er, stupidity or something, tangna no amount of talent can save them na in the end kung nuknukan ng yabang ---- at sexist.

take the case of some guitarist out there. pinanood namin itong jazzphil ensemble with a few of my girl friends sa kublai katips weeks ago. my friend's friend invited us and since we love jazz, we went. lapit lang naman e.

that's deo arellano on the flute thang, tito ni mishka adams at kafatid ni agnes arellano. magaling siyang kumanta ng a la bossanova-ish pala.

masaya naman, enjoy yung grupo. girls' night out ang dating. kahit ikatlong lamesa lang kaming occupied sa whole place. we even thought it was a waste kasi magaling yung band. and how kublai changed over the years ha. for the better.

we especially loved manong torotot. sorry didn't get his name. :P

and it was equally kewl when skarlet, aka myra ruaro stepped up and jammed with the group. sumasabay pala ang lola sa grupo minsan. ang ganda. oks siyang mag-jazz.

after the gig, this guitarist na ka-chika ng friend of my friend kanina pa, lumapit ulit sa teybol namin. syempre kami na lang natira dun ano. yung other 2 occupied tables wala nang tao. sabi ng guitarist "whoo. hirap talagang mag-jazz. pawis ako."

er, tingin lang kami sa likod. thought balloon: sino bang ini-impress-an nito? as if we care.

tapos eto ang fatale. tinanong niya kami "na-culture shock ba kayo?"

sabi namin, "huh? what do you mean?"

and he made that cardinal mistake of boxing women in.

he said, "kasi in my experience, chicks don't dig jazz."

thought balloon: CHICKS???? CHICKS???? don't dig jazz???

ah ponyetah, wag mo kong hihiritan ng ganyan at kakagaling ko lang sa pagtuturo ng non-discriminatory gender fair language sa scriptwriting class koh!!!!

i took a deep breath before answering him, at the same time waving a finger. which finger, well, i regret to say it wasn't the middle.  "that's a very wrong assumption. a lot of women like jazz. hey, i mean, i know chet baker and all those guys. i love billie holliday and all those girls."

at sinekondan ako ng mga kasama ko. kuyug time ito!!! well in the end, ang ending, hindi niya kami nabentahan lahat ng cd niyang recorded songs without copyright paalam whatsoever. bow. at hindi na kami nagpaalam sa kanya. nuknukan!

maganda na sana yung gabi eh. nasira lang ng hirit ng isang clueless idiot. well.  pero ang topper pala niyan, a few weeks later, we met up again with my friend's friend and she told us na HINDI KILALA NI CHICKS-DON'T-DIG-JAZZ SI JANIS JOPLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahahaha. there is a god. naturingang jazz artist siya, di niya kilala si janis jokla! jusme. gudlak sa yo.

zen and the art of partying, er, film people

CURRENT BEVERAGE: not cold water
CURRENT CHI-CHA: kiatkiats
WHO I'D LIKE TO HUG TODAY: the master/s who let me peek at the zen of things
WHO I'D LIKE TO KILL TODAY: black entities of mine

i can't believe how my blog horribly needs an editor hehe. dami palang grammatical lapses and typo errors. well, i assume virginia woolf experienced the same thing when writing stream of consciousness-ly. the thing is, do i owe it to myself as a writer/editor to have my writings appear crisp and clean baga? do i owe it to my readers whom i know could be nanggigigil na to correct errors pero sige basa lang sila ng basa? (oo alam ko may prends akong ganyan hehe)

and the final is me. :P i owe it to my creativity to just let it flow uncensored. i don't really care if i have a few lapses. after all, this is a blog and i am not submitting this for anyone's approval but my own. so there. :) palag ka?

as my horoscope read pa:
If you're not feeling fulfilled by what you're receiving from another person, this is the right time to talk about it. You can balance negativity, though, by going out of your way to mention what you do like about the relationship. It is risky to push things further now, but this might be a necessary step if you want to grow.

The Moon entered magnetic Scorpio last night and reflects our need to passionately merge with the object of our attractions, yet our intentions are not transparent. Often we live our lives right out in the open where everyone can see exactly what's going on. But now, we delve beneath the surface of appearances and touch what lurks within hidden realms. What we find isn't necessarily pleasant, but our awareness can transform darkness into light or fear into love.

huwaw. agree or disagree? spin a win na, pare. tru.

fear into love. i heard the word love spoken like siguro 15 times or more tonight. and it was in a very interesting context. and it's also strangely satisfying and utterly amazing how such a small iota of contentedness in love can urge you to hold silence long enough for you to be as still as a stone.

something like that.

i think i know now why i'm coming back to art. or why my expression of late is through visual arts.

overcoming repression.  big time. kaya bumabawi yata. well, about time it did, i think. sabi nga nung kanta, to everything (turn turn turn) there is a season (turn turn turn) and a time to (for?) every purpose under heaven.

but for now, i can only doodle.

or find an unusual "canvas" and just let it flow, in a manner of speaking...

devah? :)

it's such a happy thing to rediscover watercolor and to discover acrylic,  n'est-ce pas?  :)

well, hindi pa actually tapos yan. unang birit pa lang yan. display ko ulit pag kerima polotan tuvera na syang tunay.

for now, stare at the pictures of the upfi party na muna. tutal on the subject of visual arts pa rin naman tayo.

facade

a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there once was a movie house called UP Film Center which later merged with the UP College of Mass Comm's Film and Audiovisual Department to become the UP Film Institute.

post no bill

and the UPFC became cine adarna. much to the chagrin of some cinema festival directorout there in manila teeheehee.  intrigah!

bupey

ayan ang kainan. doesn't look much but the food was great!!! especially the tsiken. yumyum. teka, kelan nga ba to? xmas lunch kasi eh, dec15 if i'm not mistaken.

the afams

mga foreigner teachers. well, dalawa lang. tilman on the right is our german faculty member and shin dong kim from korea on the left (finally) is our visiting prof, exchange for the elusive joel david. elusive kasi mula pa noong undergrad ako, exchange prof na siya of some university or other. ngayong faculty na ko, hala, ala pa rin. sabi nga ng mga thai, same same.

sabi ni dr. kim when ms boots handed everyone token giveaways, it's the first time in 20 year daw that somebody gave him a xmas present. nobody asked why is that so. i don't know why. wala lang... nagbi-beer na yata kami when that happened kasi.

yours or mine?

ms. gigi alfonso, our woman of the world, chats away while my beer can is in the foreground and the indefatigable ate fortune takes a rest at the background.

blech pale pilsen. walang choice eh, what the hey. tinukso naman ako ni roland when i drank cali. nagkukunwari daw akoh! e sabi ko, feel ko mag-"ladies drink" eh, bat ba? hehe. sana lite na lang, puwede pa. sana pala nagbitbit ako ng red wine.

smoke belcher blues

and you shouldn't wonder why 90 percent of our meetings take place outside airconditioned no-smoking room venues. this is why. that's ms gigi and dean nicanor tiongson puffing away. shucks, sa totoo lang, nate-tempt akong mag-yosing muli tuwing nagmi-miting kami... :(

coords

that's anne de guzman our upfi director waving at me. and beside me is faculty coordinator for theater services ed lejano. beside him is film theories lecturer patrick campos. cool bunch of pipol.

sacris-tanned

the courageously and creatively bejeweled lecturer lyle sacris discussing with our ex-upfi acting director roland tolentino, back momentarily from his own stint at some singaporean university chuvaloo.

i kinda harassed lyle to take on a film prod 1 course this sem pero sayang at di swak sa sked nya hehe. and why do i have that harassment power? kasi they promoted me as the faculty coordinator for academic programs and research last october, that's why. kaya i really need all the zen i can muster to survive this sem hehe. like what we used to say back in my undergrad days, microcosm ng local showbiz ang cmc at ang film dept. so apt pa rin to this very day.

da women

the indefatigable lalli lacaba tinkeringwith her cellphone again, menthinks, while daughter egay looks on.

in the fg, tilman's wife feeds their daughter. she teaches german yata sa CAL. slight nagulat siya when i talked to their kid in german. onti lang naman, nothing to blow her away. isang simpleng "was ist das?" lang naman tinanong ko when the kid was like making basbas to everything she sees using her baby cologne. and the wifey exclaimed na hey, i spoke german! and then i wondered, hmm, is that kinda hard to believe? o di lang siya sanay makarinig ng non-CAL person speak in german? hmm, je ne sais pas. maybe i should have told her that i can understand a bit of four major EU languages. baka lalong masindak. chos.

hmmmm, mag-minor kaya ako ng EL? napaisip bigla eh...

jamonadoremifasolaisa

our upfi workshop chuva person laisa negotiating with prof roehl jamon. he looks better without his glasses, methinks. pero nakakakita pa kaya siya?

chikaness

lecturer ms boots anson roa (or ms BAR as we termed her in premiere productions before) chika-ing with lyle. yosi ever pa rin si dean.

it's always nice to see ms BAR on board, especially during harassed monday mornings. it reminds me of the good ol' days in premiere when we used to come to work very early to beat the 9am bundy clock and have coffee and croissants first at the nearby au bon pain (di pa uso starbucks noong mid-90s e, pero masarap naman itong au bon). those were fun times.

nga pala, sabi ni ms bar, nood tayo ng BLUE MOON. blue moon nga ba? yung mmff film na kasama siya. sige pag lumabas.

sige, tawa

as anne was calling me up there, i was trying to take a picture of them with me while holding my cam. aba, ang sabi nila, i have my own paparazzi daw. shempre dapat kasama ko sa piktyur no! but no, di nasilayan buong fez ko. pero aliw sila sa move hehe. oh, that's our tech guy kuya rick passing by.

to the folks who have given tokens and gifts, thanks very much. they kinda made the holeydaze feel a little less holey (but i'm still figuring out how to use that ikea item from roland. hm. leave it to gay guys talaga to give fashionable house items).

and before i sign off, food for thought muna from the stop the new round coalition. talagang food for thought, dahil maaapektuhan ang pagkain natin sa mga kinakalabasan ng mga nego nego na itich. hay buhay... gudlak sa atin.

STOP THE NEW ROUND! COALITION-PHILIPPINES PRESS STATEMENT ON THE OUTCOME OF THE 6TH MINISTERIAL MEETING OF THE WTO IN HONG KONG

21 December 2005

‘Interim Deal’ in Hong Kong a Betrayal of Philippine Interest!

The ‘interim’ trade deal that is being hailed by the United States and Europe as the outcome of a successful Ministerial Meeting of the World Trade Organization betrays Philippine interest and that of other developing countries.

In exchange for what is being purported as a major concession by the European Union to eliminate exports subsidies by 2013, developing countries have signed on to a disastrous Ministerial text that paves the way for the conclusion by 2006 of an anti-development trade agreements under the Doha Round.

In all the critical areas of negotiations—agriculture, non-agricultural market access, services, and the issue of development, the text locks-in very critical and highly contentious areas like ambitious tariff reduction formula in NAMA and the plurilateral approach in services while glossing over the divergent views that have already been expressed by countries in the course of the negotiations and specially in the last few days of the Ministerial in Hong Kong.

The ‘deal’ is reminiscent of the flawed and undemocratic ‘July Framework’ that was the basis of the negotiations. The text remains conveniently vague in most of the contentious areas, allowing little space for negotiations while very clear in certain areas. The objective is to project success in Hong Kong and prevent a monumental collapse of the Doha Negotiations.
Four years ago, the Doha Round negotiations was launched with the promise of development. The outcome of the Hong Kong Ministerial meeting effectively kills that promise of development. We have been proven correct that the Doha Round ‘s promise of development is nothing more than an empty promise. Judged against the Doha Round’s avowed development objectives, then Hong Kong is indeed a failure.

The ‘interim’ deal is a betrayal of the Philippine government’s own position to preserve policy space in the interest of defending the national interest. The concessions that were made in NAMA and services surely constitute an erosion of policy space and are inimical to national interest.

The government vowed to put the issue of flexibilities ahead of the formula in the NAMA negotiations. Secretary Peter Favila himself said that the position of the Philippines is “No movement in the forumula (no discussion in the coefficients) unless we secure the paragraph 8 flexibilities.” The Philippines was one of 11 countries that expressed the strong demand to put ‘development’ and flexibilities at the center of the NAMA negotiations. The text effectively ignores the clamor of developing countries including the Philippines for these flexibilities. What we got isntead in NAMA is an ambitious formula to cut tariffs on industrial and other non-agricultural products like fisheries.

The government vowed to preserve the flexibilities again on services, vowing to oppose the highly flawed and disastrous Annex C, which would force us to offer services sectors beyond what we have already agreed to do so. The Philippine government was again part of the small group of countries that have expressed the view that Annex C should not be part of the Ministerial text because there was no consensus on it. What we got was Annex C with its plurilateral approach and qualitative targets that would force liberalization of services sectors throughout the developing world.

Ultimately, the Philippine government must be held accountable for its failure to defend our national interest in the negotiations.#

CURRENT BEVERAGE: one and a half inch punch cocktail [vodka, orange juice, orange soda, lemon lime soda on the rocks] and wallop-ian booze [tequila, orange soda, lemon lime soda on the rocks]
CURRENT CHI-CHA: still eyeing that can of pringles cheezum
WHO I'D LIKE TO HUG TODAY: moist for being born
WHO I'D LIKE TO KILL TODAY: people who exploit the holidays to extort money

if it fits more than a hundred songs, huway nat...

as opposed to having an over 6k ipod shuffle 512mb, this creative muvo does the same job. at may lcd screen pa na wala ang shuffle. at sabi kasi ng pinsan ko, nawawala daw pala ang songs sa shuffle once maubos ang charge (at walang baterya kasi you charge via the dock ek). luz. saka mukhang oral b traveling toothbrush kasi yung shuffle kaya di ko magustuhan eh. baka mapagkamalan ko pang sepilyo at maitapon ko, lagot.

so far, my muvo carries the whole alanis mtv unplugged album, the doors' the doors album, billy holliday gitanes jazz, janis joplin's greatest hits, a dozen songs from my 2004 wuda (walang uupo dance album) collection, and 60 other random songs. o, ilan na yon! dami na diba? more than a hundred na nga! fwedi naaaaa! hehe. i am so happy. xmas gift ko sa sarili ko kanina. :) yung creative zen series sana kaya lang mabigat sa 8k niya at 1gig siya. i don't really need that many songs nga, i discovered. and to have this muvo at less than 5k pa! (well, okay, one peso less than 5k, since 4999 siya) fweding fwedi na talaga! astig pa yung shiny black color. not to mention meron din nga pala itong voice recorder at fm radio. at syempre, puwede pa ring documents storage since usb flash drive din ang drama niya. plays both mp3 and wma. wav ang voice recordings.

wihiiiiiii! hapiii!

that was such a discovery earlier. i went back to sm north's cyberzone ba yun to have that defective nokia data cable replaced but they weren't able to fix the prob so refund na lang. at doon ko nakita yung muvo. kewl! it really pulled me out of this rut i have been in since i woke up. no, no more horrific jose mari chan xmas songs but i just didn't feel like moving, you know what i mean? there are days like that, when i just feel like not moving, not rising from the bed, not doing anything but sleep, sleep and sleep some more. today was one of those days. ewan kung bakit. basta. antok na antok at pagod na pagod lang ako kanina.

but i still managed to get up and go to my relatives at project 4. my lolo from canada is here and we spent some time together. he was endearing naman until he kidded me about getting married. siyempre di ko na pinatulan, lolo literal na eh. pero bumatsi nga ko ng maaga kasi nga have to rush to sm before the store closes. 2-day return engagement eklat lang kasi ang warranty, and i spend the whole night last night fixing the darn thing, to no avail. well, no regrets. at least i got something more satisfying out of that trip today. ayuz.

swak ata sha sa aking horoscope for the day:

You may not want to perform your social or familial roles today, but consider the impact you'll have on others before you back out of your obligations. There may be hidden issues at stake, some of which you haven't thought about. Do whatever you must to overcome your negative feelings. You'll do better once you get into the flow of the holiday spirit.

swak, dontcha think?

*

still on the subject of the holeydaze, naiinis lang ako sa mga nagka-carolling ngayon kasi di nila sineseryoso ang pagkanta. parang rinaraket na lang. obvious naman e. di tulad noong bata ako at kami ang nangangaroling. whatever happened to that more humane approach? yung talagang mangangaroling ka because it was fun and you wanted to sing christmas songs. at ngayon, nginangarag pa nila yung gate! oh well...

pero kung ganito nga naman ang mamamasko sa bahay mo, bibigyan mo naman talaga eh..

tambol-lina?

isang araw last last week, narinig namin itong tropang tambol with some gay guys in darna-esque drag dancing on the streets.  para ngang nangangaroling pero iba style. di lang namin mawari kung paano. last week, i discovered how.

angel liksi as darnita

tumapat sa bahay ang tropa. rampa ang mga sisterette! may-i-dance ng konti ang drama nila, chika chika ganun. at...

blow me!

kumakain ng apoy! or bumubuga pala. sabay abot ng envelope at nego ng pamasko. well, i don't mind giving. mga sisterette e, syempre. saka kamangha-mangha ang gimik nila. now that's being creative! hindi yung tatapatan ka sa kanto habang naghihintay ng taksi sabay kakantahan sa walang kalatoy-latoy na tono ng "sa may bahay, ang aming bati..." sa isang bad mood morning ko, nabulyawan ko tuloy ng "mukha ba kong bahay!"

ayun. scrooge ikaw ba yan?

hay ghost of xmas past ini.

speaking of past, naalala niyo pa ba yung december xmas mannequin shows noon sa COD department store sa cubao? lumaki akong nanonood nun e. and lo and behold, pag-uwi ko isang araw habang naglalakad along jimenez st, may tumambad sa aking pananaw...

look! up in the...

may big big santa with some elvish eks sa tabi niya, gumagalaw sila, to and fro lang naman na movement, obviously hinihila ng some sorta mechanism sa likod nila. and to announce this display, blaring xmas songs can be heard like all over.

yes, gumagalaw sila!

huway nat. jerky movements nga lang, pero what's scary is...

holey faces, buttman!

mga blown up photos of children -- i assume the relatives of the ones who made this -- na maskara style ang nakalagay sa faces ng elvish displays. you know, it looks really eerie in person, believe me. but that might be just me. ewan.

but i have to admit, it's creative.

that's one thing i like about xmas here in the country. people tend to get really creative one way or another.

well, more pix later.

nananatiling wish list of the year...

nano-nano...

wala pang enuf budget ang lola nyo kaya nananatiling wish itich. yung blue mini sana pero phase out na pala iyon and replaced by the nano. a black one would be kewl. intayin natin sa enero, hane?

iniisip ko sanang kunin na yung orig e, with more than 1k songs. yung cheapest nano kasi can hold up to 500 songs lang. nauuntian ako until a friend of mine said "e aanhin mo naman ganun karaming kanta? hindi ka naman naka-earphones ng 14 hours straight ano."  honga naman. so okay, go tayo with the 13k mowdel. pag nagkapera.

hay, pasko na. i'm glad i'm not as bah humbugy as before now. of course it counts a lot that i greet a special someone a happy birthday on this day. but it's also part of my reworking my system, upgrading to a personal zen, to rework that depeche mode song of years ago. and literally zen nga. i'm gonna try out this group that does it. it looks pretty promising so far. i hope it can help my mind and soul do that general housecleaning that it's been aching to do for ages.

we'll see.

"it is time to fulfill your destiny, kal-el."

tru. ako ba yan? hehe.

obviously, nanonood na naman ako ng SMALLVILLE. holiday fare na eh.

heniwey, the year can be summed up in pictures and words. my words i've been spewing here since god knows when. so i'll just share with you some pix pa.

here's the womyn's night sa 70s bistro last october. di ko pa yata napo-post eh.

brain child

the night was carol bello of pinikpikan's brainchild. having been in the women's movement for so long, she has organized similar events but gathering all-women multi-artists were, i think, a first for her. good job! about time more of these were put out there.

magiliw na bayang

bayang barrios doing it acoustically for us. ganda. hit siya.

aida's words of wisdom

'tis really great to hear a great poet say her words herself. buti na lang nagpaunlak pa rin si tita aids kahit medyo may sipon na siya ng konti.

usaping puki ni angeli

ccp's tanghalang pilipino's angeli bayani did her own hilarious rendition of a combination of  the VAGINA MONOLOGUES pieces translation in filipino. if i'm not mistaken, i think one was about the woman's monologue of discovering how her vagina looks like (and truly admiring it), and definitely the other one was an excerpt from my favorite piece, the C.U.N.T. monologue (of which i can never forget a great rendition by monique wilson) spoken in filipino. she was just so darn funny!

  peachy performance

man, i wish i had better pictures of peach, or isha to the local jazz world.

pangalay

nerissa guevara doing her thing. sige.

tunggril in tongues

rhona montebon of womyn supporting womyn center doing a monologue nga ba of how to say "lesbian" in several languages.

jasmine with winono

jasmine icasiano being backed up by most of winono royder band ni omeng (naggigitara sa harap).

maria[a]nas' trench

mari and her poetry and eye image

   winono ito

the full winono band (fronted by the now famous sarah "co-author ng taray reply to patricia evangelista's column" raymundo) ng fellow writer friend na si omeng (ang makatang rommel rodriguez), na nakilala ko sa UP writers workshop years before i met his sis carol in isis. ayoko pang maniwalang magkapatid sila noon. i can't see the resemblance. stupid question ko pa: "ha? kapatid mo yun? ba't magkaiba kayo ng apelyido?" duh! nagpakasal kasi si omeng. charot!

bellybelladona

Handwriting Analysis
What does your handwriting say about YOU?

The results of your analysis say:

You plan ahead, and are interested in beauty, design, outward appearance, and symmetry.
You are a person who thinks before acting, intelligent and thorough.
You are diplomatic, objective, and live in the present. You are not very reserved, impatient, self-confident and fond of action.
You enjoy life in your own way and do not depend on the opinions of others.

truli? i'm not sure about the symmetry part. but most of the thingamajigs are correct. :)

hahaha this one i love!

lord and lola of warla

CURRENT BEVERAGE: not cold water
CURRENT CHI-CHA: seattle's best javanilla cookie something super yummy sha
WHO I'D LIKE TO KILL TODAY: self-righteous idiots with mainstream media access
WHO I'D LOVE TO HUG TODAY: teachers who stand up for what is right

was gonna dive into blogging agad sana ngayon but i got caught up with email, particularly reading (finally) this response by sarah raymundo and another guy to this patricia evangelista column ek where she maligned activists, especially teacher-activists. naku hija, you don't do that to UP teachers. patay ka hehe.

...

wait ha reading pa...

...

gosh i love reading sarah's rebuttal hehe. how i miss talks that include the words neoliberalism, free market, trade liberalization, ideological state apparatus, interspersed with occasional quotes from lacan.

yah, taga-CAL/CSSP nga ang nagsasalita teeheehee. i don't know why CMC people don't talk like this. kulang yata tayo sa social theories, ano children? para hindi naman puro PINOY BIG BROTHER ang inaatupag niyong pag-usapan (hah naririnig ko kayo noh).

...

i like this quote:
The starting point of a multiculturalist is a dogmatic faith in pluralism. Pluralism presupposes that discourses have equal status in a given hegemonic order. However, it is precisely the existence of the hegemonic order that negates the> very idea of plurality. For a hegemonic order to exist, it has to marginalize certain discourses that challenge it. Antagonism, and not some Miss Universe idea of World Peace, is the condition of possibility of all social formations, including that of "liberal democratic" regimes.

sayang walang makahanap ng original na column na yun ni patricia. naku, lesson learned: huwag tsugiin ang peyups prof in mainstream media dahil you never know the powers they and their connections might have. as in. hm i guess mag-da-drop na lang siya sa class ng titser na nilait niya hehe. patay siya, taga-filipino dept pa naman e sandamukal na tibakers kaya mga tao doon?

oh well. on to other things...
